Day 18 – Another day down

Woke up just before my alarm went off so I guess that was a good sign. Nothing too exciting about my overall feeling on the morning or my practice.  It was good and I felt energized and awake by the end of it.

I’ve been noticing over the weeks that I am definitely more balanced on my left leg than my right.  I can’t tell if it’s because of my weaker knee on the right, or just an overall balance issue.  You’d think I’d be better balanced on my right since I’m right handed, but I’m not sure if that even goes hand in hand.  So for the next couple of weeks I’m going to work really hard to try to hold my poses on the right as well as I do on my right.  It will certainly be a project.

Awkward PoseI’d have to say that this morning’s weakest pose was Awkward Pose.  I think my thighs are just plain tired.  So I had a really hard time holding the stages of the pose to the full amount.  I think as I keep building overall strength, I’ll really be able to hold this one and get deeper into it.  That’s my main goal for this pose.
Toe Stand
I think I’ve been doing Toe Stand all wrong.  Even though I’ve been able to get my hands in prayer a few times, I’ve been getting into it the wrong way.  Apparently I need be completely straight with both hands on each side evenly and just not touching the ground, to start the pose.  Balance there first…then bring my hands up.  Oops.  I’ll try it this way tomorrow and see how I do.
Balancing Stick
I had a good Balancing Stick today.  I really felt like I was fully stretching from end to end and balancing directly in the middle.  There are still a few more things to focus on like evening out my hips and looking for forward, but I think I’m doing to get there soon.

Camel PoseI also had a great Camel Pose today.  I felt more flexible, like I was more of a wheel shape, and was able to really hold it, relax and breathe.  I definitely have a love/hate relationship with this pose since it’s hard and I sort of feel like quitting each second, but then I hold it and breathe and when I come out to savasana, I feel a full release through my body and I feel like I get a lot out of it.  I’m really hoping this pose is helping my hip flexors as well.  They always seem to be so tight.

Just plugging away at my practice this week.  Getting to bed on time, waking up pretty well, feeling energized after practice and throughout the day.  My body is a bit more sore and tired overall, but it’s totally manageable.  I wonder if I’m feeling more sore because of getting further into the poses over the weekend in the increased humidity.  I bet that’s how I strained my hamstrings a bit more.  I’m still trying to take it easy, but I’ve been finding if I get into the poses slowly, it actually feels good in the moment to stretch them out.  I should probably take it a bit easier than I am, but then again, I wouldn’t be my usual Type A self if I didn’t push it a bit.
